‘Democracy, Not Monarchy’: Tens of Thousands Join Anti-Trump Rallies Across America

Massive “No Kings” protests have taken place across major US cities including New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Miami, and Los Angeles, as tens of thousands demonstrated against President Donald Trump’s policies and growing presidential powers.

In New York City, more than 100,000 people reportedly filled Times Square and nearby streets, chanting slogans such as “Democracy, not Monarchy” and “This is what democracy looks like.” Organizers described the protests as peaceful, despite the National Guard being placed on standby in several states.

Since returning to the White House in January, President Trump has faced criticism for using executive powers to expand control over federal institutions and deploy troops domestically. Critics warn his actions threaten American democracy, while Trump insists he is “rebuilding a nation in crisis” and dismisses accusations of authoritarianism.

Prominent Democrats including Bernie Sanders, Chuck Schumer, Cory Booker, and Adam Schiff joined or voiced support for the protests, calling them a defense of democratic values. “We have no dictators in America,” Schumer wrote on X, while Sanders told a cheering crowd in Washington, “We’re here because we love America.”

Demonstrations also spread overseas, with solidarity rallies held in London, Berlin, Madrid, Rome, and Toronto.

A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll showed Trump’s approval rating at 40%, with 58% disapproving—reflecting deep national division as his administration faces mounting backlash.
