One of Nepal’s most celebrated musical figures, Ram Krishna Dhakal, is set to perform in Aberdeen this weekend in what organisers are calling a rare and culturally significant live event for the Nepali diaspora in Scotland.
The performance, jointly hosted by the Nepalese Himalayan Association Scotland (NHAS) and the Organisation for Nepalese Culture and Welfare (ONCW), will take place on Sunday 10 August at 7:30 PM, at the NHAS Hall in Bridge of Don, Aberdeen.
Dhakal, widely recognised for his contribution to Nepali music spanning more than three decades, is expected to draw attendees from across the country.
A Celebrated Musical Career
Often described as the voice of a generation, Ram Krishna Dhakal rose to national prominence in the early 1990s and has since become a household name in Nepal. His songs — which range from soulful romantic ballads to stirring patriotic pieces — have earned him a loyal following at home and among the global Nepali diasporas.
The upcoming performance marks the first time the artist will appear live in Aberdeen. Organisers say the evening will be “emotionally resonant” and “deeply meaningful” for those longing for a musical connection to their roots.
Community Engagement Through Culture
The concert is part of a broader effort by NHAS and ONCW to foster cultural preservation and community cohesion among the Nepali population living in the United Kingdom.“Bringing Ram Krishna Dhakal to Aberdeen is not only a matter of pride but also a reflection of our community’s commitment to keeping Nepali art and identity alive abroad,” said a spokesperson for the organising committee.
“This is more than a musical event; it’s a celebration of heritage and shared memory.”
