Windy Week Ahead for Aberdeen: Sunshine Offers Brief Respite Between Showers

Aberdeen, Scotland | Tuesday, 5 August 2025

North-east Scotland is bracing for a week of strong winds, scattered showers, and fluctuating temperatures, as early August weather remains stubbornly unsettled across Aberdeen and its neighbouring towns. The week begins with gusty conditions and intermittent sunshine, following the departure of Storm Floris, which left behind a trail of turbulent air and a fresh Atlantic breeze sweeping across the region.

Tuesday: Gusty Winds and Patchy Rain Dominate

Today’s weather has brought sunshine mixed with sporadic rain showers, with temperatures peaking at 19°C in the city centre and dipping to 14°C overnight. However, it’s the wind—gusting over 50 km/h in open areas—that is drawing the most concern from weather officials.
Communities from Stonehaven to Ellon and Inverurie are being advised to secure loose objects, as coastal gusts may lead to minor disruptions, particularly for transport and outdoor workers.

Wednesday: A Window of Calm

Midweek offers a brief sigh of relief. Wednesday promises dry conditions, mild sunshine, and calmer breezes, with daytime highs reaching 20°C, the warmest of the week. Winds are expected to ease, making it a favourable day for outdoor activities, travel, and community events.
Areas such as Westhill, Banchory, and Peterhead will see the best of the week’s weather, with only light cloud cover forecast during the evening.

Late Week: Return of Showers and Winds

From Thursday onwards, the north-east faces a return to breezy and cloudy weather. While Thursday sees occasional sunny spells, it also brings renewed showers and a noticeable drop in overnight temperatures to 11°C. Friday is shaping up to be mostly overcast, with highs around 18°C and an ongoing south-westerly wind that may make conditions feel cooler. Inland areas such as Insch and Huntly could see heavier rainfall by late afternoon.

Weekend: Mixed but Improving

The weekend kicks off with partly sunny skies on Saturday, with temperatures stable around 18°C and a reduced chance of rain. While winds persist, conditions will be more stable compared to earlier in the week. Sunday brings a mix of cloud covers and a stray morning shower, followed by drier spells through the afternoon. Temperatures will hover near 17°C, making for a manageable end to a turbulent week.

Local Impact & Recommendations

• Travel: No severe disruptions reported, but caution is advised for drivers, cyclists, and ferry passengers on windy days.
• Public Events: Organisers of outdoor activities should prioritise Wednesday and Saturday for best conditions.
• Coastal Visitors: Beaches and coastal paths may be hazardous during peak wind hours—especially Tuesday and Thursday.

Looking Ahead

As north-east Scotland heads deeper into August, the region remains locked in a classic Scottish summer pattern: cool, changeable, and cloud prone. While a major storm system is not forecast, daily fluctuations in wind and rainfall will continue to test resilience and planning for residents and businesses alike.
