Trump Says ‘Progress Made’ but No Deal in Anchorage Talks with Putin

US President Donald Trump says “progress was made” but “no deal” was reached after a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, focused on the war in Ukraine.

The two leaders met for three hours before making short statements to the press, but neither took questions. President Trump described the talks as “productive” but admitted “we didn’t get there”, adding that he would consult NATO allies and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.

President Putin said he was “sincerely interested” in ending the conflict, but offered no details. He again spoke of addressing the “root causes” of the war, a phrase widely seen as signalling Russia’s continued objective of weakening Ukraine’s sovereignty.

Kyiv is likely to welcome the absence of any agreement that could have undermined Ukraine’s territorial integrity. But the lack of concrete progress leaves uncertainty over what comes next, with concerns that Russia may continue its attacks undeterred.

Both leaders departed Anchorage shortly after the talks concluded, leaving analysts to question whether any real shift has occurred.
