Great Britain – Heat health alerts have been issued for the whole of England, with temperatures forecast to climb as high as 34°C in the latest spell of intense summer weather.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has placed the Midlands, East Anglia, London, and the south-east under an amber alert, warning of potential travel disruption and mounting pressure on hospitals and emergency services.
Widespread Warmth Across the UK
Most of England and Wales will experience temperatures between 25°C and 28°C, while highs of around 26°C are also expected in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The National Drought Group has described the water situation in England as “nationally significant,” urging the public to conserve supplies as reservoirs and rivers face mounting strain.
Climate experts warn that heatwaves are becoming increasingly frequent and severe, with this week’s conditions a stark reminder of the growing impact of climate change.
In southern Europe, wildfires continue to sweep through parts of Spain and Portugal, while France recorded temperatures in the low 40s on Monday.
Scotland Warms Before Possible Storms
While Scotland is not under a formal heat alert, forecasters say temperatures will climb steadily through the week. Just days after Storm Floris brought a distinctly autumnal chill, the Met Office expects highs in the mid to high 20s.
Deputy chief meteorologist Tom Crabtree said Wednesday is likely to begin with early mist in some regions, giving way to sunshine — but warned of possible thundery outbreaks in northern areas later in the day.
As the new school term begins for many, the warmer conditions will provide a final burst of summer sunshine before a return to more unsettled weather.
