Kathmandu, Nepal — Following the collapse of the Miteri Bridge due to devastating floods in Rasuwa, 91 Nepali citizens have been stranded on the Chinese side of the border.

According to Dhruva Prasad Adhikari, Assistant Chief District Officer at the Rasuwa District Administration Office, the stranded individuals are currently in Kerung, China. The Chinese authorities have arranged food, shelter, medical care, and other essential services for them.

The Chinese side officially informed Nepali authorities about the arrangements being made for the stranded Nepalis. Continuous coordination is ongoing between Nepali officials and their Chinese counterparts to ensure the well-being of those affected.

The Miteri Bridge, located at the Rasuwagadhi border point, was washed away around 3 a.m. on July 8 (Asar 24). With the bridge gone, Nepalis who had crossed into China were unable to return home.

In the aftermath of the floods, a joint search operation involving the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and the National Investigation Department is underway to locate individuals reported missing. Search efforts are being focused along the banks of the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers.

Security agencies have been actively rescuing locals from disaster-prone areas on a daily basis. On Thursday alone, 143 people were rescued and safely relocated through the construction of temporary foot trails.

The flood has also caused significant damage to electricity and communication services, though the District Administration has confirmed that these services have resumed as of Thursday.

Furthermore, the historic and archaeologically significant Kali Temple located in Gosainkunda-2 has been completely destroyed by the disaster. The customs yard in the area also suffered damage, leaving 20 individuals missing. Some bodies and body parts have been recovered, but only one victim has been positively identified so far.

Rescue and recovery efforts continue as authorities work tirelessly to address the aftermath of this natural disaster.
